Aoibheann wins NI Water Art Competition!

27th Jun 2024
St Mary's is very proud of its Primary 6 student, Aoibheann Cassidy, who recently won 2nd place in in the P6 section of the NI Water Art competition.

Water is our most valuable resource on earth and is essential for all living things; we cannot live without it! Water has become more precious than ever before with the impact of global warming and climate change causing weather and rainfall patterns to change.  Providing safe clean water and ensuring we look after the environment is very important and it takes many people working together with lots of different skills to do this.

There are lots of ‘water people’ who work hard to keep our water flowing. NI Water have over 1500 staff with lots of different jobs. These people have important jobs to make sure we all have clean safe water in our taps 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and that the water we have used is returned safely to the water cycle.

This year, our competition asked pupils to draw a poster to celebrate ‘water’ people and the important jobs they do.

Aoibheann's entry was selected and she was invited to Belfast, along with her parents for a prize giving ceremony on Friday, 21st June. She was presented with a goody bag, along with other children, who won in their respective categories.

We are delighted for you Aoibheann and we also want to say well done, to all the other participants, for showcasing their wonderful artistic abilities.
