Beannachtaí na Féile Bríde duit! - 1st February 2025
In the days prior to Saturday, 1st February, our children and staff across all of our classrooms were thrilled and honoured to be able to join with countless other people throughout Ireland and the world, in honouring our Secondary Patron Saint and great woman of faith - St Brigid.
As we read stories about the life and legacy of Brigid, and sang songs and hymns in her honour, we reflected on her role as one of Ireland’s three patron saints, and how she is renowned throughout the world for her hospitality, and her love of and service to the poor, the sick, the elderly, the environment and animals of all kinds.
Most especially, also, we were privileged to remind ourselves once again about the origins of the Brigid’s Cross, as used by Brigid to explain the Christian faith, and how, today, it remains a popular and treasured sign of God’s protection in our homes, schools and hospitals, and on our farms and in our animal sheds. As we made our crosses from green rushes, just as Brigid did, we prayed that the blessing of God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, be on our crosses and on the places where they hang, and on everyone who looks at them. Amen.
We extend a sincere word of appreciation to Martin who visited our school as we made our St Brigid’s crosses and who has kindly shared a number of photographs taken. Hopefully, they will bring you and St Brigid a smile!
