Cuilcagh Cup Winners! - 2023

4th Oct 2023

On Monday, last - 2nd October 2023 - our Primary Six and Seven students were delighted to travel to Kinawley Brian Borus GFC grounds to participate in the inaugural Cuilcagh Cup.

This eleven-a-side Gaelic football competition was organised by St Mary’s Primary School, Killesher. Our friend and former teacher - Mr Ryan Keenan - along with the Principal of St Mary’s - Mr John Cunningham - extended the warmest of welcomes to our young Gaels from Teemore. Separate competitions were held for girls and boys and, along with St Mary’s, Teemore and St Mary’s, Killesher, teams from St Ninnidh’s PS, Derrylin and St Naile’s PS, Kinawley also participated.

Following a most enjoyable and at times riveting day of football, St Mary’s Primary School, Teemore emerged as champions in both the girls’ and boys’ competitions! Teamwork, resilience, superb effort and abundant skill and talent were to the fore in all our games. Many congratulations to all our students! The respect and exemplary behaviour of every girl and boy from St Mary’s was tremendous once again, also.

At the conclusion of the finals, our delightful respective captains on the day - Katie McCorry and Sean Flanagan - were most gracious and excited to proudly accept the Cuilcagh Cup trophies on behalf of all their teammates! Many congratulations to each and every one of you!

Our school community conveys our sincere thanks to Ryan and John and everyone from St Mary’s, Killesher who ensured that we were all looked after so very well. The ethos of the competition - enjoyment, participation and respect - was evident throughout the day’s proceedings; well done! We also thank all of our parents and members of Teemore Shamrocks who provided support and encouragement, as ever.

Just as we all greatly appreciate and treasure the wonder and beauty of both the Cuilcagh landscape and the fine caves that lie beneath, so, too, we very much hope that this competition continues to grow in strength, and be preserved and protected for the years ahead.
