Fear Manach Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling & Camogie Champions 2024

18th Jan 2024

Naomh Mhuire Tí Mhóir - Seaimpíní Iomána agus Camógaíochta an Chontae 2024

Wednesday 17th January will be remembered as a historic day, for St Mary's Teemore, as both our boy's and girl's teams were crowned as Fear Manach Cumann na mBunscol Indoor Hurling & Camogie Champions 2024.

In what was a fantastic day of sport, celebrating our National Games, our children showed  skill, determination, respect and courage, which led to this momentous achievement being made possible.

Our boy's team faced tough competition in a group phase consisting of St Mary's Mullymesker, St Ronan's Lisnaskea, St Mary's Maguiresbridge and Tattygar PS. Following four victories, we qualified in first position for a semi-final against St Ronan's Lisnaskea. What followed was one of the finest games of hurling to be witnessed at primary school level, within the county. Heart and resilience were to the fore, as our boys fought back from one-nil down, to force extra time. A moment of individual brilliance resulted in a 'golden goal' win and a place in the final against St Mary's Maguiresbridge. In the final, a superb performance resulted in a four-nil victory and the coveted county title. Well done to our team, who only conceded two goals all tournament. This, along with hard work, was the foundation to your success! Congratulations boys!!

Our girl's team were in against St Ronan's Lisnaskea, St Mary's Maguiresbridge and Tattygar PS, in what was once again a very strong group. Following a number of excellent performances, we qualified as group winners, being drawn to play St Mary's Maguiresbridge in the semi final. The team surely saved their best performances for the knockout stages, with a four-nil victory securing their place in the county final. St Ronan's Lisnaskea were to be our opposition in the final and following another physical, determined game, we secured the county camogie title, on a final score of three-one. We must, again, commend the work rate and battling qualities of our team, who only conceded one goal during the whole competition. Congratulations to you all!

Whilst it is always so lovely to see our children being successful in competition, it was even more pleasing to listen to the compliments placed towards our children from spectators and other schools, for the manners, respect and empathy that St Mary's Teemore showed towards opponents and officials throughout the tournament. These are the core values that remain so very important, in sport and in life.

We will now, proudly, represent Fear Manach in both the Uster Indoor Hurling and Camogie Finals, which are scheduled to take place in March.

Thank you to all those in Cumman na mBunscol Fear Manach, for organisation both competitions. A special word of thanks to Mr Prunty, St Mary's Maguiresbridge and Mr Carey, St Ronan's Lisnaskea for helping to officiate today.

A huge word of thanks to our staff, who continue to work so hard to promote the GAA, within the school. It is a huge part of the local community and provides so much to our pupils. Thank you to both Mr Kavanagh and Miss O'Rourke for accompanying the squads to Castle Park, it is much appreciated. Thank you also to Mrs Clarke and Mrs Smith, who made sure that travel arrangements were in place, for our children to participate.

On arrival back to school, the teams were greeted by their friends and schoolmates, who cheered the successful teams through the school gates, creating a guard of honor. These are special moments for our children, who were so appreciative of their homecoming celebrations. Hopefully, these successes and memories, will inspire the younger children within our school to achieve similar in the future.
