Fun, Friendship and Family - Sports Day 2024
Our Annual Sports Day is always a milestone event in our school year and Friday, 7th June saw us celebrate and continue that great tradition in this year of 2024!
Our children and staff were thrilled to welcome parents, grandparents, family members, friends and former students, as they joined us on a day which celebrated fun, participation, friendship and family. It was wonderful to witness the active participation of all our children in a variety of sporting events; the team building and teamwork, cooperation and unity skills manifested by our six teams throughout the day; the showcasing of athletic talent, fostering pride and a sense of accomplishment by our children beyond the classroom; and the community engagement involving parents, grandparents and our wider community, which strengthens school bonds, promotes togetherness and enables our families share in our students’ growth, gifts and talents. We thank all our children, families and members of our community, for your valued support and interest, as ever.
We convey a most sincere word of thanks and appreciation to our entire school staff who worked tirelessly in a whole myriad of ways to ensure that our Sports Day ran effortlessly and smoothly. A special mention is reserved for Mr Kavanagh who planned, oversaw and coordinated everything both prior to and on the day, itself. Thank you, Mr Kavanagh!
It is always most pleasing and heartwarming to welcome a past pupil back to St Mary’s and Friday, 7th afforded us the wonderful opportunity to welcome Sean McNally as our special guest. Sean was an immediate favourite with our students in the Penalty Kick competition! Did any of our girls or boys score against Sean, we wonder!!! Sincere appreciation to Sean for being with us on the day, helping to present the awards at day’s end and for being such a lovely, respectful and kind role model for all of us.
We also wish to thank the members of Seamróga an Tí Mhóir CLG for their beautifully prepared platters of fresh fruit and McBrides SPAR Derrylin for their kind donation of water and bananas; our children thoroughly enjoyed sharing in all.
We greatly appreciate Danielle and Terence’s hard work and presence in facilitating the purchase of teas/coffees and tray bakes, and the ice-cream van which made a very welcome visit to our students, also!
We trust you enjoy sharing in our photographs and video compilations and hope they provide a smile for everyone! Thank you to three of our Primary Seven boys - Joe, James and Rián - for all your great efforts and hard work in compiling the videos.
