St Mary’s enjoy a showcase celebrating the life of Robbie Burns

25th Feb 2024

Before our mid term break, all the children and staff from St Mary’s, were treated to a wonderful production from Ellen, Dylan and Ivor from the Bready Ulster Scots Association.   This is the second time this academic year, we have received a visit from the association.

The show in the form of dance, music and dialogue, was a celebration of the life of one of Scotland’s most beloved literary figures, Robbie Burns, who is widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland. Safe to say, the entire school and indeed staff, had an immensely enjoyable experience, given the interaction and enthusiasm which has palpable from the facilitators.

It was delightful to see the excitement and fascination on the youngster's faces observing drama, story telling, music and dance based on Robert Burns.  Children were invited from the audience, to share in the celebrations. The finale, in which the entire school stood holding hands whilst singing 'Auld lang Syne', perhaps Burns’ most famous and well-known song, was the perfect ending to this workshop.

St Mary’s takes pride in providing children with rich opportunities in all areas of the curriculum. This occasion, yet again, gave children a flavour and appreciation of other cultures and traditions in our locality. A massive thank you to the team at the Bready association and we hope to see you again, in the not too distant future.
